Purposefully Chosen Materials

Every material in our kit has been carefully selected. We focused on choosing materials that make sense for you, your cat, and the environment.


Stainless steel is 100% recyclable and it doesn’t lose its level of quality the more it is recycled. In comparison to plastics (only 9%), the recycling rate of stainless steel is over 80%. Even if it is not recycled, stainless steel has zero negative effects on soil and groundwater, and the production of it does not create toxic runoff. It is a durable, corrosion-resistant, hygienic and non-porous material that doesn’t absorb odours.


Bamboo is a natural material that actually plays an important role in our fight against climate change. Did you know it absorbs 2X more carbon dioxide and produces 30% more oxygen than trees? It grows extremely fast since it’s a grass, requires very little water, doesn’t need pesticides or fertilizers, and naturally regenerates after it is cut down (no need to replant!). This powerful grass is extremely strong, prevents soil erosion and has natural antibacterial properties.


Aluminum is stainless steels close relative. Similarly, it too is infinitely recyclable without compromising on quality, and is extremely lightweight and highly durable.


Walnut is a gorgeous dark colored wood that polishes to a smooth finish. We used this wood to replace parts in our product that would traditionally be made of plastic.

Our Sustainable Cat Starter Kit is plastic free – that is, all except for two tiny parts: the non-slip pads on the bottom of the litter box and the plastic cap that seals the small hole on the very top of the litter scoop handle.


It is challenging for a small business that is just starting out to manufacture without any plastic.
